Gore Is Also Fit and Healthy
WASHINGTON-Like his boss, Vice-President Al Gore appears in fine health, with mildly elevated lipids.

  According to summaries of records released by the White House the same day as President Clinton’s, Gore had a total cholesterol of 232 mg/dL, an LDL of 147, and triglycerides of 197. His HDL was 46, giving him a lipid ratio of 5.0, at the border of high.

  In an exercise treadmill test, Gore moved into Stage V on the Bruce protocol for a total of 14 minutes, with a peak heart rate of 96% of maximum predicted, said cardiologist Martin Bacon at Bethesda Naval. ECG: normal; sinus bradycardia with a rate of 55; no evidence of heart disease.

  Gore, who is 48, is 6'1" and weighs 200 lbs. Pulse: 65 and regular. Respiration: 12. BP: 112/72 mm Hg. At his most recent exam, on April 3, 1995, he had no significant findings of acute or chronic disease, says FP Jeffery Eschbach, a White House physician. Gore takes no prescription drugs regularly, quit smoking in 1973, and has no history of hypertension, diabetes, STDs, stroke, or heart disease. PPD: negative. PSA: 0.71. Urinalysis, CBC, fasting glucose, and blood chemistries: normal. Thyroid function: normal.

  Gore had a screening flexible sigmoidoscopy to the descending colon. There were two 2-mm polyps in the distal colon,which histology found were normal colonic mucosa. Several small sigmoid diverticuli were noted. They have been asymptomatic.

  Gore had a superficial basal-cell carcinoma excised from his upper back in 1993. He has scattered benign-appearing nevi. He had an inguinal hernia repaired in 1989. An Achilles’ tendon was ruptured in 1994 and was repaired the same day.
