Fingerstick meter equals venous blood

BOSTON-A new rapid fingerstick test for glycated protein could let diabetics check long-term control at home.

A prototype fructosamine meter developed for self-testing by LXN of San Diego works as well as standard lab testing with venous blood, says a Bowman Gray endocrinology team. Cross-sectional studies with 51 diabetics and controls found the device results correlated significantly with both lab assessment of fructosamine and glycated hemoglobin by affinity hplc, Audrey Bell-Farrow told the American Diabetes Association meeting here.

The meter also accurately monitored changes in glycemic control of 20 Type 2 patients who had weekly tests over a six-week drug intervention, documenting significant drops in fingerstick and lab fructosamine in all. -Judy Ismach
