DETROIT-Provocative to the end, Dr. Jack Kevorkian says he helped a 74-year-old woman die in a Roman Catholic church here.
The claim aroused the ire of the Detroit archdiocese, which was nonetheless skeptical about the authenticity of the place of death.
Dr. Kevorkian delivered the body to a hospital. He did not name the church but said he had the assistance of a sympathetic priest. His lawyer said a church is an appropriate place to go into the next world.
Cardinal Adam Maida, who has condemned Dr. Kevorkians assisted-suicide campaign, has called on Catholics to give up meat on Fridays as penance for assisted suicide and abortion.
