NOT YET HISTORY
Chronicler of medicine lives on

NEW YORK-Dr. Saul Jarcho, the medical historian, is alive at 91 despite the Mount Sinai Alumni Association’s efforts to write finis.

Spotting a paid death notice for Saul Jarcho in the New York Times, the Sinai alumni association assumed it was for the retired internist and quickly inserted a paid condolence in the paper. But the deceased was Dr. Jarcho’s 90-year-old cousin.

Dr. Jarcho, the longtime editor of the Bulletin of the New York Academy of Medicine, says the similarity in names had been “one of life’s minor headaches.” -Mark Bloom
