Chiropractors top the health-loan list
WASHINGTON-The feds are cracking down on a list of health-care student-loan defaulters that’s dominated by chiropractors.
Calling the 1,333 professionals “hard-core defaulters,” HHS posted their names on the Web (www.defaulteddocs.dhhs.gov) and banned them from Medicare and Medicaid. Sixty-nine more escaped the list at the last second.
The list of debtors-who’ve resisted a total of $101 million in loan repayments for at least three years-includes 737 chiropractors, 246 dentists, 149 MDs, 82 podiatrists, 35 pharmacists, 28 DOs, 28 psychologists, and 14 optometrists. There are nine in public health, three administrators, and two vets. -Amy Norton
