Lung Transplants & the Impact of Age
     Johns Hopkins researchers have found that lung transplantation may be used with caution in patients aged 60 and older but should not be used for patients older than 70. The study, published in the March 2009 Journal of the American College of Surgeons, reported that age greater than 60 in lung transplantation was associated with a 37% increased risk of death. CABG Trumps PCI in Some Cases
     CABG surgery appears to be a better option than PCI for patients with diabetes and for those aged 65 and older because it leads to lower mortality, according to a study published in the April 4, 2009 issue of The Lancet. However, the authors noted that mortality was similar between CABG and PCI groups in patients without diabetes. [ More ]
